Thunderbird のサーバー設定で、「サーバーの種類：IMAP」「接続の保護：SSL/TLS」の場合、サーバー証明書に設定されている名称と、Thundrbirdでのサーバー名の指定が異なると、次のように「ログインに失敗しました」のエラーになります。
メールサーバーでは、/var/log/maillogに次のようなエラーが出ます。（CentOSの場合）
imap-login: Disconnected: Connection closed: SSL_accept() failed: error:14094412:SSL routines:ssl3_read_bytes:sslv3 alert bad certificate: SSL alert number 42 (disconnected before auth was ready, waited 0 secs): user=<>, rip=xx.xx.xx.xx, lip=xx.xx.xx.xx, TLS handshaking: SSL_accept() failed: error:14094412:SSL routines:ssl3_read_bytes:sslv3 alert bad certificate: SSL alert number 42, session=<XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX>
imap-login: Disconnected: Connection closed: SSL_accept() failed: error:14094412:SSL routines:ssl3_read_bytes:sslv3 alert bad certificate: SSL alert number 42 (no auth attempts in 0 secs): user=<>, rip=xx.xx.xx.xx, lip=xx.xx.xx.xx, TLS handshaking: SSL_accept() failed: error:14094412:SSL routines:ssl3_read_bytes:sslv3 alert bad certificate: SSL alert number 42, session=<XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX>Thunderbirdのサーバー設定のサーバー名で、サーバー証明書に設定されている名称を指定しなくてはいけません。
サーバー名にIPアドレスを記述している場合は、サーバーのFQDNに修正するとOKになるはずです。
